This time last year I kept talking about how this (2012) was MY year and I was going to fulfill my dreams. I wrote about it, I made goals to make this dream come true and more importantly I realized “faith without works is dead” so I got my butt in gear. I started to redefine what I wanted to write about, where I wanted to go and who I wanted to be known as in this thing called a blogosphere. I made a lot of difficult choices and risked losing my beloved audience but I knew in order to grow I had to take risks.
I started off by setting health goals (run a couple of half marathons) to goals about becoming an entrepreneur and then becoming a writer–full time. Well it’s the second half of 2012 and I can tell you that my season of the “takeover” is real.
You see about 3 months ago I got the idea to start my own online magazine, The Educator’s Room, and a lot of people told me I was crazy. I’m happy to say we launch August 1,2012. I am sooo proud of this magazine. It’s full of articles that will encourage fellow educators, parents and stakeholders in the community. To make things even “more” official, I ordered my business cards and sometime this week, I will be on the radio discussing our publication! (Check us out on Facebook and Twitter!)
This year I really wanted to focus on writing more and less YouTubing about my hair. Well I did it and this year my writing has officially started to get noticed. I wrote a couple of poignant pieces about the debauchary of reality television, particulary about Love and Hip Hop Atlanta and my life literally changed. So far I’ve been interviewed by at least 7 radio stations discussing my article and my stance on reality television. Just last week I was asked (again) to be a part of the Jennifer Keitt show to discuss issues affecting black women! I totally loved it.
Last week, I found out that an article that I wrote for Lamar and Ronnie with Black and Married With Kids, was getting picked up by the Huffington Post Canada! To add to my joy, I was told that I was officially a Huffington Post Blogger! I almost fainted! To add to that I was humbled to come on as a dedicated writer to the premier blog for African Americans, Black and Married With Kids.
To top it all off, I celebrated my 5th wedding anniversary to a man who does nothing but add to my joy. My life is good. I’m verbalizing all of my blessings not because I want to brag but I want to let YOU know that anything you put your mind to YOU CAN DO IT. All you have to do is speak your goals and then work towards your goals. I asked God a long time ago to direct my steps and I believe that I am EXACTLY where I am supposed to be. I’m not perfect and I’m not where I want to be ultimately but I am so happy in this moment.
If you are reading this and you’re scared about your next steps in life. Stop now and pray like I did. Put your faith in God, roll up your sleeves and get to moving! Your destiny is literally RIGHT around the corner! For the next 7 months I’ve dedicated my time to do the following things:
1. Be the best mother/wife/daughter I can be.
2. Lose this weight.
3. Continue to build my brand.
What are you doing to make these next 6 months a success?
