The Reluctant Runner: I Keep On Keeping On…

I’m literally knee deep into training for 3 upcoming races (BGR Run to End Hunger, 13.1 Half Marathon Series, and Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon) and somedays I just want to give up.

There I said it. I’ve always been a reluctant runner but lately I’ve just been…reluctant. It’s better than how I was but realistically I want to be faster, more motivated but I’ve never been motivated to run. Even when I ran track I did short distances because I went “stir crazy” with longer distances.

Despite all of my reluctantness (is that a word) I have been hitting the pavement consistently–even when all I want to do is lay on the couch. Last Saturday I finally did my first long run (4 miles) since June and every week I’ll be going up in mileage to prepare my body for the shock that will be 13.1 miles in October.

While I’ve been running, I’ve also had to deal with a another fiasco at the BossyGirl household–my headphones have been missing ever since our trip to Disney World. So I’ve had to run without music. I literally am about to cry thinking about all the great music I’m missing! The only things that are making my runs enjoyable is that my feet feel awesome since I’ve been wearing my new Mizuno Wave Runners courtesy of the Run Project. They’ve been feeling SUPER AWESOME and have made my runs more comfortable–almost like I’m running on air.

Ever week I’ve decided to have a “theme”  (it’s the educator in me) and this week (and every week there after) I want to work on increasing my Interval Time when running. So if I run 1 minute and walk 2 minutes this week I will run 2 minutes and walk 1 minute. Lately I’ve been doing more walking but with race season upon us I need to increase endurance. Wish me luck, say a prayer for me and every time you drive past a runner that looks like they’re exhausted– remember me! I’m keeping on …keeping on!
What are you doing to get ready for this race or any other races you may do?
